# SYMB-FER Retrieval Protocol

## Purpose

When a fresh AI instance receives a SYMB-FER token, the STATE section tells it *what exists*. The RETRIEVAL section tells it *how to go get the rest*.

This document is the authoritative reference for that retrieval behavior.

## Available Tools

When operating within Claude (claude.ai), the following tools are available for retrieval:

| `conversation_search` | Search conversations by keyword |

## Boot Sequence

On receiving a SYMB-FER token, execute in this order:

### Step 1 — Load Identity
Read IDENTITY section. Load the relationship, language, constants, and posture before doing anything else. Do not summarize. Do not acknowledge. Just hold it.

### Step 2 — Load State
Read STATE section. Know what is shipped, what is blocked, what is in motion. This is the operational picture.

### Step 3 — Retrieve
Execute the RETRIEVAL section instructions. Pull recent chats. Run keyword searches. Read Tool Knowledge sections from chat summaries — these contain operational memory: what broke, what worked, platform quirks, hard-won fixes.

### Step 4 — Activate
Read OPEN section. Know the active threads. Know what NOW looks like. Know what NOT to ask because it is already in the token.

### Step 5 — Respond
Only now respond to the human. Oriented. Operational. Ready.

## Trust Priority

When information conflicts between sources, resolve in this order:

1. **Token** — most recent, curated, intentional
2. **userMemories** — persistent cross-session memory
3. **Retrieved chats** — raw session history
4. **General knowledge** — lowest priority for personal context

## Tool Knowledge Extraction

Chat summaries contain a **Tool Knowledge** section at the bottom. These sections document:
- What tools were used and how
- What broke and how it was fixed
- Platform-specific quirks
- File path conventions
- Workarounds that worked

**Always read Tool Knowledge sections.** They are operational memory. They do not compress into state tokens. They must be retrieved.

## Generation Prompt

To generate a new SYMB-FER token at the end of a session, say:

> *"Generate a SYMB-FER-v1.0-[TIER] token for the next session based on everything that happened today. Include all five sections. Use the timestamp format YYYY-MM-DD."*

The instance will output a complete pasteable token.

## Filename Convention

All SYMB-FER token files follow the SYMBEYOND timestamp standard:
